Prof. Eric Rompen (Belgium)

Prof. Rompen is Professor of Periodontology-Dental Surgery at the University of Liège, Belgium.

He has been Head of the Department of Periodontology-Dental Surgery and of the postgraduate program in Periodontology & in Implantology from 1999 to 2018.

He is also a former President of the Belgian Society of Periodontology (2001–2004).

He is author or co-author of numerous international publications, and heading the DentalME Education Center.

Lecture Abstract:

Ceramic implants offer new possibilities for oral rehabilitation and will quite surely increase in power in a near future.

This lecture will detail some key parameters for a better long-term stability of hard and soft peri-implant tissues, and will analyze how metallic and ceramic implants comparatively behave in regards of these parameters.

An academic viewpoint on the success rates of both implant types and on potential toxicity of metallic implants will be given, and a clinical viewpoint on their respective advantages / disadvantages (retrievability, prosthetic connections, digital workflow, etc …) will be presented.
