SUMMARY:EACim / SOPIO Scientific Day - Lisbon 2025
DESCRIPTION:EACim / SOPIO Scientific Day – Lisbon 2025\nFebruary 8\, 2025 – Lisbon (U Lisboa – Faculdade de Medicina Dentária)\nThis day on the “Battle of concept” between titanium and zirconia implants will be offered in collaboration with the Portuguese implant society SOPIO (Sociedade Portuguesa de Implantologia e Osteointegração). Our Academy will be joining forces with SOPIO to discuss the evolution of the zirconia implant and its alternative to titanium. \nSCIENTIFIC DAY PROGRAM\nWe are delighted to welcome you to this scientific day dedicated to ceramic dental implantology\, a rapidly evolving field. This diverse and comprehensive program will explore the latest advancements in zirconia implants\, peri-implantitis treatment\, and the technological innovations transforming our daily practice. \nThe theme : Everyday ceramic implantology.\nBio Immune osteointegration in Implantalogy.\nInternationally renowned experts will share their experiences and in-depth knowledge with you: \n\nDr Giancarlo BIANCA: Zirconia implants: closer to the natural root?\n\nExclusive private practice in Implantology and Periodontology in Marseille since 1999\nGraduated from the University of Aix -Marseille of Dental Surgery -1992.\nPost graduate in Implantology from Paris VI -1997.\nPast Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Surgery at Paris VII (1997 to 1999).\nPast President of the French Society of Periodontology and Oral Implantology in the Southeast of France -2012 to 2014.\nTeacher in the European Advanced Program in Implantology at the University of Corsica Pasquale Paoli since 2012\nPresident and founding member of the European Academy of ceramic Implant (EACIm) since 2018\n\nLecture abstract\nFor over 50 years\, titanium has been the material of choice when it comes to surgical implant devices for fixed restorations in dentistry. We appreciate its mechanical qualities\, which are now enhanced by the use of titanium alloys in orthopedics.However\, its biocompatibility depends on its absence of immune and inflammatory responses\, and therefore on its capacity for inertia in the oral cavity. This biocompatibility is related to its relative resistance to corrosion. Recent studies confirm that the presence of bacteria\, as well as titanium particles\, are involved in the ethiopathogenesis of peri-implant diseases. In addition\, the pollution of our environment\, the presence of numerous allergens in our food and in cosmetic products are leading to the appearance of more and more patients with allergic reactions an increasing number of patients with intolerance or hypersensitivity reactions to metals used in implantology and orthopedics. Patients with an allergic background and autoimmune diseases are also patients at high immunological risk when we indication for dental implants.\nZirconia implants\, with their electro-chemical inertia\, are a genuine alternative. \n\nDr Fabrice BAUDOT: The benefits of the zirconia collar on anterior implant reconstructions\n \n\nInternational speaker and author of many publications\nExclusive practice of laser micro-surgery\nTherapeutic approach based on mini-invasive surgery\nPractitioner of ceramic implantology since 2013\n\nLecture abstract\nTooth and tissue loss in the anterior region is often a very unpleasant experience. And reconstructing these areas represents a real therapeutic challenge for us practitioners\, to meet the ever-increasing demands of our patients.\nThe integrity and stability of peri-implant hard and soft tissues is the foundation for the long-term durability of our restorations. The zirconia cervical part of the Z1 TBR hybrid implant is a major asset in this respect.\nThe biological properties of zirconia\, particularly with regard to soft tissues\, provide microbiological\, functional and immune protection.\nThe zirconia collar is one of the keys to the success of anterior implant reconstructions\, which will be illustrated through a series of highly didactic clinical cases in this presentation. \n\nDr Amandine PARA: The benefits of laser in the treatment of peri-implantitis\n\nFormer intern in Odontology (Paris 7)\nFormer university hospital assistant (prosthetics department\, Paris 7)\nDU Surgical and Prosthetic Implantology (Paris 7)\nDU Clinique de Prothèse Implantoportée (Paris 7)\nDU Européen de Techniques laser en Odontologie (Paris 7)\nLecturer in DU Implantology (St Joseph)\nVice-President of IMLA (International Medical Laser Association)\nDirector\, Study Club ITI Paris\nResponsible for the SOP laser training cycle\nAuthor of the book: “Périimplantites : approche thérapeutique” (éditions Parresia\, 2019)\nPrivate practice limited to implantology and periodontology\, Paris\n\nLecture abstract\nPeri-implantitis is a recent pathology. Peri-implantitis is an inflammatory disease of infectious origin\, leading to bone loss around an implant\, which may progress to the point of total implant loss. Peri-implantitis affects an average of 25% of implants in 20% of the implanted population\, at 10 years. Practitioners are currently confronted with the problem of peri-implant infections\, which they have little experience of.\nHow can peri-implantitis be detected? How can they be treated? How can they be avoided? These are just some of the questions that are hotly debated by general practitioners and implantologists alike\, who are confronted with this tsunami in their day-to-day work.\nNumerous therapeutic solutions have beeń proposed\, exploiting various mechanisms and fields of physical and chemical action.\nWe will illustrate particularly through several clinical cases the place of lasers in the treatment of peri-implantitis. This conference will present the APARA protocol for the diagnosis\, management and prevention of peri-implant diseases using “laser mono-therapy”. \n\nDr Roland GLAUSER\, D.M.D: Fighting the Tsunami of peri-implantitis by establishing an effective biological firewall around your implant restorations\nDr. Roland Glauser graduated from University of Zürich and was from 1997 to 2006 assistant professor at the Department for Fixed Prosthodontics and Dental Materials\, University of Zürich. Roland Glauser was president of the scientific board of the Swiss Society of Oral Implantology SSOI and he is an active member of the Academy of Osseointegration AO and the European Association for Osseointegration EAO. From 2006 to 2020 Roland Glauser served as guest lecturer and a research fellow holding a clinical associate professor position at the Dental College of Georgia\, Augusta University\, Augusta (GA)\, USA. \nHis research activities mainly focus on tissue integration of oral implants and shortened clinical protocols. Dr. Glauser has published more than 80 articles and textbook chapters on the subject of restorative dentistry and osseointegrated implants. He served as reviewer for the Journal of Biomechanics\, the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation\, the Journal of Clinical Periodontology\, and Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research. Roland Glauser lectures extensively all over the world and received Academy Awards for his presentations from the Academy of Osseointegration AO\, the Japan Academy of Gnathology and Occlusion\, the Asian Academy of Osseointegration AAO\, and the Taiwan Formosa Academy of Implant Dentistry FAID. He serves as a certified expert in Oral Implantology in the European Dental Association EDA and within the Foundation for Oral Rehabilitation FO.  Dr. Glauser runs a renowned private clinic in Zürich\, Switzerland. \nLecture abstract\nAccording to the latest consensus workshop of the EFP and AAP\, peri-implantitis is highly prevalent (affecting 22% of dental implants)\, and its management is challenging\, unpredictable\, and associated with significant morbidity due to the lack of long-term successful treatment options. Given this context\, prioritizing the prevention of peri-implantitis through novel approaches seems logical.\nToday\, zirconia tissue-level implants are not only an alternative to titanium fixtures\, but due to their biological\, esthetic\, and long-term behavior the future of dental implant therapy. Research reveals that a mucophilic and textured implant collar surface character is one of the primary factors contributing to the resistance against peri-implantitis. In particular\, a specific collar surface with its unique ability to promote a robust soft-tissue adhesion along its transmucosal portion is key. Hence\, such characteristics result in the formation of an effective defense barrier – a veritable “biological firewall” – preventing the downward migration of bacteria and plaque. Two clinical long-term studies conducted at the universities of Düsseldorf and Graz demonstrated that the Patent™ Dental Implant System can effectively prevent peri-implantitis.\nThis presentation will reveal new insights and define a new understanding on tissue integration and tissue interaction using 2-piece tissue-level zirconia implants to counteract peri-implantitis. \n\nPr João CARAMÊS\, D.M.D. \, P.h.D:  : lecture title is to follow\n\nProfessor João Caramês is a Full Professor\, Dean of the Lisbon University School of Dental Medicine and Chairman of the Oral Surgery and Implant Department. He is founder and Director of the Implantology Institute in Lisbon.\nHe is Principal Investigator on Dental Implants and Bone Physiology at the Oral and Biomedical Research Unit of the Lisbon University School of Dental Medicine (UICOB/FMDUL). The main focus of this research is the surgical and Prosthetic use of zirconia.\nHe published and lectured extensively on a national and international level and he is member of the Scientific committee\, editor and reviewer of several Dental Journals.\nProfessor Caramês is board certified in Oral Surgery and today his private practice is focused on Oral Surgery and Implant Dentistry.\n\nLecture abstract\nFurther details are to follow. \n\nDr Olivier CHERON: Evolution through ceramic thinking\n \n\nDr. Olivier Chéron is a Implantodontic and Specialist in Ceramic Implants.\nSecretary of EACim ( European Academy of Ceramic Implantology).\nAmbassador of EACim for Spain ( European Academy of Ceramic Implantology).\nMember of the AFNOR.\nCo-Director ItI Club Barcelona.\nCo-founder Dental Clinic Equilibria.\nInternational Speaker.\nTherapeutic approach based on biological dentistry since 2006.\n\nLecture abstract\nToday\, more and more patients are rejecting metal restorations for esthetic or for compatibility reasons\, to avoid the risks of immunological failures linked to allergy to metals. They look for metal free restoration and implants without titanium. The question is can I use ceramic implants for my patients. Are ceramic implants resistant to fractures? \n– Fundamental aspects of ceramic implants\n– Causes and effects of ion release in implant dentistry\n– Are ceramic implants indicated for all clinical cases?\n \n  \n\nEVENT LOCATION\n \nU Lisboa – Faculdade de Medicina Dentária – Rua Professora Teresa Ambrósio – 1600-277 Lisboa – Portugal\n \nHotels for accommodation\n> Hôtel Açores lisboa \n> Hôtel NH Lisboa Campo Grande \n\nONLINE REGISTRATION\nChoose your rate:

Minimal complications were reported and no periimplantitis was recorded. Usual risk factors for the longevity of titanium implants do not seem to affect at least to the same extent zirconia implants. \n\nDr Simone Marconcini: How to naturally preserve the biological width thanks to hybrid implants: The zirconia collar benefits.\nCV \n \n\nHead of scientific research at the Tuscan Institute of Stomatology- PISA research foundation\,\nGraduated from the Faculty of Dental Surgery of Pisa and holds a University Specialization in Oral Surgery and Implantology from the University of Pisa\,\nPhd in Nanobiotecnology at the Faculty of Biomaterials in Toronto (Ontario\, Canada).\nWith over 10 years’ experience in oral health and implant research and implantology.\nInternational lecturer and trainer in implantology\, with over fifteen years’ experience on implants. Nowadays\, it is well known that to get the success of prosthetic rehabilitation on implants\, the role of soft tissues is as much important as the role of hard tissues. It is true that the short and the long run success of implants prosthetic rehabilitations is related both to the achievement of osseointegration (direct contact between the fixture and the surrounding bone) and to the correct integration of the cervical part of the implant within the soft tissue (mucointegration). Soft tissues are crucial from the very beginning of the implant placement\, since its represent an indispensable shield to protect the underlying bone and at the same time its must recreate a natural appearence. Sealed tissue recovery is fundamental to prevent peri-implantitis\, to decrease chronic inflammation and to reduce bacterial infiltration.\nClinicians are much more aware of the biological width assets that if we think about periodontal success in implantology\, the management of the soft tissues is the key issue. Following these evaluations it is clear that an accurate knowledge of both the supra crestal implant design and the biological width allows a better treatment plans success rate. Titanium is still the material more familiar among clinicians but zirconia has gained in popularity in the last years. All materials have advantages and disadvantages\, this lecture will demonstrate that it’s possible to combine the advantages of both biomaterials within an innovative and clinical evidence based tissue level implant in our daily dental implantology practice. \n\nDr Antonio Garcia Sanz: Titanium as the optimal material of choice in current implantology: Are there valid alternatives?\nCV \n \n\n Graduate in dentistry \nPractice limited to Periodontics and implants \nExpert in guided bone regeneration\, aesthetic implantology and guided tissue regeneration \nMaster in research design in health sciences \nFellow ITI (International Team for Implantology) \nMember of Minec\, Sepa\, Scoi \nCo-director Master Periodontics and Implants  – Universidad de Vitoria-Gasteiz EUNEIZ \nNational and international speaker \nClinics: AGS Odontologica /University Dental Clinic Miguel de Cervantes European University UEMC\n\nLecture abstract (coming soon) \n\nDr Javier Gil Mur: Dental implants of zircone vs titanium. Finally\, in vivo studies were carried out where the levels of bone index contact as well as the histology of the newly formed bone could be determined.\nThe results showed that the mechanical properties are more favorable for titanium given its greater toughness\, better fatigue behavior and better mechanical transfer to bone tissue. However\, implants made of zirconia do not present corrosion\, have greater chemical stability and aesthetic level. When smooth titanium implants are compared with zirconia implants\, the osteointegration of the different implants at 14 weeks does not present statistically significant differences\, but the study reveals that the key factor is the roughness that plays a fundamental role in the osteointegration of the implant. Some criteria to be taken into account for the proper use of zirconia dental implants are also exposed. \n\nDr Jorge Cortés-Bretón Brinkmann: Zirconia dental implants: Current and future options\nCV \n \n\nUniversity professor. But in recent years several questions have arisen about problems that occasionally occur with titanium implants\, pointing to a need for an alternative material. At the present time\, several ceramic implant brands and designs are available on the market\, both one-piece zirconia implants (O-PZI) and more recently T-PZI. To date\, the more widely used and scientifically documented zirconia implant systems are O-PZIs. However O-PZI presents several drawbacks mainly due to its one-piece presentation. This fact explains the current and future trend towards T-PZI. Nevertheless medium/long-term clinical investigations of T-PZI have been scarce. \n\nLOCATION\nLa Salle University (Madrid)\nC. de la Salle\, 10\, Moncloa – Aravaca\, 28023 Madrid\, \nLa Salle University of Madrid is one of the most prominent universities in the city. \n\nRATES & ONLINE REGISTRATION\nI REGISTER AND BENEFIT FROM EARLY BIRD RATE (before April 30)organised by the EACim and the SCOI
